Working together Blake and Smithers remove themselves from accustomed territories, allowing unlicensed freedom across the surface and an opportunity to explore and respond to each other’s disciplines. Their work calls to mind the collaborative tradition of Dieter Roth/Richard Hamilton and more recently Josh Smith/Christopher Wool.
